KATHMANDU: The BYD Atto 2 has emerged as one of the best-selling electric car models in Nepal following the conclusion of major festive seasons such as Dashain and Tihar.
With an overall length of around 4.3 meters, the Atto 2 falls into the compact SUV segment, a category that continues to attract strong demand in the Nepali market. Its size, SUV-oriented design, and competitive pricing have made it a preferred option among buyers looking for a value-for-money electric vehicle.
BYD has maintained a clear market strategy in Nepal, supported by consumer-focused sales and after-sales plans. As a result, most models introduced by the brand have managed to create a strong initial impact. The Atto 2, which entered the Nepali market around five months ago, has already seen imports reach 1,072 units, indicating growing consumer interest.
Several factors have contributed to the model’s performance:
Brand trust
BYD is widely regarded as one of the most trusted Chinese electric vehicle brands in Nepal. The nationwide sales and service network developed by distributor Cimex Inc. has further strengthened buyer confidence. The earlier success of models such as the Atto 3 and Dolphin has also positively influenced consumer perception. In addition, BYD’s Blade Battery technology and warranty coverage have played a role in building trust.

SUV-oriented design
The Atto 2’s dimensions and styling are similar to popular SUVs in Nepal such as the Hyundai Creta, Venue, and Suzuki Brezza, making it easier for buyers to transition to an electric alternative. Design elements like the Dragon Face styling, full LED lighting, and a sporty appearance have added to its appeal. A 440-liter boot space and its positioning as a more affordable alternative to the Atto 3 have also attracted buyers.
Market trend
SUVs currently account for nearly 64 percent of new car sales in Nepal. Growing awareness of fuel savings, reduced running costs, and the expansion of charging infrastructure have encouraged consumers to consider electric SUVs, supporting demand for models like the Atto 2.

Ease of use
The Atto 2 measures 4,310 mm in length and features a ground clearance of 200 mm, making it suitable for urban driving as well as rough road conditions. In real-world Nepali driving conditions, the vehicle delivers a range of around 300 km. Using a DC fast charger, the battery can be charged from 30 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes.
Price and features
Available in a single variant, the BYD Atto 2 is priced at Rs 4.399 million. Despite its relatively lower price, the model offers a wide range of features, including a 51 kWh Blade Battery, cell-to-body technology, BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, advanced driver assistance systems, and six airbags.
