KATHMANDU: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal, has said that Nepal is now stepping into the era of electric vehicles (EVs).

At the launch of Mahanagar Yatayat’s electric bus service on Wednesday, Minister Devendra Dahal said Nepal’s shift to eco-friendly transport has begun and cannot be stopped. The company introduced 12 Chinese-made electric buses, which will operate on the Ring Road from today.

The minister also stressed the need to introduce larger vehicles to help ease traffic congestion. He shared that the government is planning to gradually phase out smaller vehicles as part of traffic management efforts.

Minister Dahal noted that the government is actively working to address traffic issues and is open to discussions with transport entrepreneurs to find practical solutions.

He further added that public transportation should now embrace digital systems and move towards cashless payments for improved efficiency.

Although Nepal is still catching up in terms of transport infrastructure, Minister Dahal said that notable progress has been made in recent years.
