KATHMANDU: Japanese automaker Nissan has unveiled the third-generation model of its popular electric vehicle, the Leaf, which has been redesigned as a crossover SUV.

Nissan claims the all-new 2026 Leaf has a fresh look, enhanced range, improved driving comfort and smarter technology.

The updated Leaf is equipped with a 75 kWh liquid-cooled battery and a 214 hp electric motor, offering an estimated range of up to 500 kilometers on a single charge. It also features two charging ports, making it more versatile for various charging options.

The Leaf now sports a more aerodynamic crossover design. Flush-fitting front door handles, a blacked-out grille and an optional illuminated Nissan logo all contribute to its modern and refined appeal.

Inside, the cabin feels more spacious thanks to a flat floor and increased rear legroom. Higher trims feature dual 14.3-inch screens with built-in Google functionality. Even base models have dual 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, multiple USB-C ports and wireless phone charging.

Nissan continues to prioritize safety with the inclusion of its Safety Shield 360 suite on all variants. The package includes automatic emergency braking, blind spot warnings and lane departure alerts. The new Leaf also offers ProPILOT Assist for semi-autonomous highway driving and a new Secondary Collision Mitigation Braking system. Additional features include a 3D Around View Monitor and intelligent navigation that suggests charging stops based on the route.

Although Nissan has not officially announced the price, the 2026 Leaf is expected to start at around $30,000.

First introduced in 2010, the Leaf was the world’s first mass-market electric vehicle and has sold over 700,000 units globally. It is popular all over the world, including Nepal, where the 2021 model continues to attract attention for its looks and reliability.
