KATHMANDU: The Public Transport Central Federation, Nepal, has urged vehicle owners not to install embossed number plates on their vehicles.

Issuing a statement on Monday, the Federation called on owners of public, private and freight vehicles not to install the embossed number plates until, what it described as, “impractical provisions” are amended.

“The Federation sincerely requests everyone not to install embossed number plates on public, private, tourism and freight vehicles until the impractical issues raised during discussions with the government and stakeholders are revised and corrected,” the statement read.

The Federation also warned that it will launch protests if the government attempts to forcibly enforce the installation.

The Federation also warned that it will launch protests if the government attempts to forcibly enforce the installation. It added that the concerned government agencies will be responsible for the consequences arising from such enforcement.

According to the Federation, installing embossed number plates under the current system would lead to the disappearance of the Devanagari script, impose financial burdens on people and the transport sector without the necessary infrastructure, and ultimately weaken national sovereignty by handing over sensitive personal details of Nepalis to foreign entities.
