KATHMANDU: The government has decided to allow the import of vehicles below the Euro 6 emission standard on a one-time basis.

According to a notice published in the Nepal Gazette by the Ministry of Finance, vehicles for which proforma invoices were issued before the implementation of the Nepal Vehicle Emission Standard, 2025, will be permitted for import.

The notice states that vehicles with proforma invoices issued before the implementation of the new standard, as well as vehicles assembled or produced in Nepal and the necessary parts used for such production, can be imported or assembled under the existing emission standards until December 1, with approval from the Ministry of Environment.

The government had enforced the Euro 5 standard for two-wheelers and Euro 6 for four-wheelers from June 23. However, automobile dealers had been lobbying for permission to import vehicles that had already been ordered before the new rule came into effect.
