KATHMANDU: Indian automotive giant Tata Motors has split its passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle businesses into two distinct companies.
TATA has already appointed separate leadership for each company.
According to Tata Motors, Shailesh Chandra has been appointed as the head of its passenger vehicle segment, while Girish Wagh will lead the commercial vehicle division.
Last month, India’s National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) granted Tata Motors approval to demerge its passenger and commercial vehicle businesses.
Shailesh Chandra has assumed the role of Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors for a three-year term from October 1. Chandra, who has been serving as Managing Director of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, will continue in that position as well.
Similarly, Girish Wagh has been appointed as Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Limited – Commercial Vehicle Business Unit. He also assumed the role on October 1. Wagh will also serve as a Director in the newly formed company.
Following the split, Tata Motors will establish a new public entity named TML Commercial Vehicles Limited.
In another key appointment, Tata Motors has named PB Balaji, the group’s Chief Financial Officer, as CEO of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) UK. Balaji will formally assume the role on November 17.
It is yet to be seen how the split will affect Tata dealerships across the world. Sipradi Trading has been selling both passenger and commercial vehicles of Tata in Nepal.
