SAIC H5, developed jointly by SAIC and Huawei, goes on sale in China

KATHMANDU: SAIC H5, the first electric SUV developed jointly by Chinese tech giant Huawei and SAIC Motor, has gone on sale in China.

The H5 is the most affordable SUV under Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA).

Launched in the Chinese market at a starting price of $22,470, the H5 SUV received 10,000 bookings within the first hour of sales. HIMA had opened pre-sales on August 25. In less than a month, the new SUV has already secured 160,000 orders.

The vehicle is being marketed under the SAIC brand name.

The higher-end variant of the H5 also includes Huawei’s ADS 4 advanced driver-assistance system.

Positioned in the midsize SUV segment, the H5 measures 4,780 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width and 1,664 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,840 mm.

The SUV features Huawei’s intelligent cockpit and driving system. It comes equipped with a 15.6-inch floating touchscreen, a D-shaped steering wheel, a steering wheel–mounted gear shifter, a 50-watt wireless phone charger and a 2.3-square-meter sunroof.

The higher-end variant of the H5 also includes Huawei’s ADS 4 advanced driver-assistance system. According to the company, this setup integrates 192-line LiDAR, three 4D millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors and 11 cameras.
