KATHMANDU: Nepal’s electric vehicle (EV) market is witnessing robust growth in 2025, with 2,365 units imported between January 1 and April 15, according to the Department of Customs.
While Chinese brands maintain a strong hold on overall EV imports, India’s Tata Motors has taken the lead in individual model imports. The Tata Tigor EV tops the charts with 330 units imported during the period. The car is favored by taxi operators as well as private buyers for its affordability and practicality.
Dongfeng’s Nammi EV is second with 248 units. The mid-sized hatchback is gaining popularity among urban commuters.
Dolphin hatchback by Chinese EV behemoth BYD secured third place with 235 units imported till April 15. The car is popular among consumers for its sleek design and reliable performance.
Tata’s Punch EV ranks fourth with 173 units imported. The car has gained a strong following in Nepal due to its SUV styling and high ground clearance which makes it ideal for local road conditions.
BYD’s Atto 3, which is known for its balanced design and commanding road presence, takes fifth position with 171 units.
Tata’s budget-friendly Tiago EV was sixth with 163 units imported during the review period.
The newly-launched MG S5 was next with 111 units. The car is considered a promising prospect in terms of value and performance.
The stylish Deepal S-07 remained in the eighth position with 72 units imported. Its futuristic aesthetics and standout design have made the S-07 a favorite among those looking for a premium car.
Another new entrant, Hyundai’s Creta Electric, took the ninth position with 66 units riding on the South Korean automaker’s strong brand legacy, while the adventure-oriented Jaecoo J6 was at the 10th position with 59 units imported.
While Chinese brands accounted for roughly one-third of total EV imported during the review period, Tata’s dominance, securing three of the top six spots, highlights its growing influence in the Nepali market. The strong showing by Tata positions the Indian automaker as an important player in the Nepali automobile market.
