KATHMANDU: Tata Motors has emerged as the top automobile brand in Nepal based on passenger car import data from January 1 to May 15, 2025.

During this period, Sipradi Trading, the authorized distributor of Tata vehicles, imported 1,013 units—securing a 19.93% share of total vehicle imports.

A total of 5,081 passenger vehicles were imported into Nepal in the first four and a half months of 2025. While Tata maintains a commanding lead, there is close competition among four brands for the second position.

Chinese carmaker BYD currently holds second place with 608 units imported—an 11.96% share. Its official distributor, Cimex Inc, has seen strong demand for electric vehicles, particularly Atto 3 and Dolphin, in the Nepali market.

Hyundai closely followed with a market share of 11.06%. Laxmi Intercontinental, Hyundai’s official distributor in Nepal, imported 562 units during the same period.

Dongfeng’s EV brand Nammi was close behind Hyundai. MAW Vriddhi imported 559 units of Nammi Box, just three units short of Hyundai. This gives Nami an 11% share of total imports.

MG also featured in the list of the top five importers. Paramount Motors, the authorized distributor of MG in Nepal, imported 522 units in the review period, claiming a 10.27% market share, thanks to a strong demand for its latest offering – the S5 EV.

Together, these five brands accounted for 64.22% of all vehicle imports between January 1 and May 15. The remaining 35.78% was shared among other brands, including Maruti Suzuki, Omoda/Jaecoo, Kia, Changan, Leapmotor, and Proton, all of which posted notable import figures during the period.
