KATHMANDU: Several new electric hatchbacks are expected to enter the Nepali market in early 2026. The upcoming models will be priced between Rs 3.5 million and Rs 4 million. Buyers planning to purchase an EV in this range may consider waiting.
MG, Geely, and GAC Aion are preparing to launch new hatchbacks in the same segment. The models include the MG4 Urban, Geely EX2, and GAC Aion UT. All three are expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2026.

The MG4 Urban will be the largest among the three. It measures 4,395 mm in length, similar to compact SUVs. The GAC Aion UT is 4,270 mm long. The Geely EX2 will be the smallest, with a length of 4,135 mm.
Battery details for the Aion UT in Nepal are not confirmed. In China, it is available with 44 kWh, 50 kWh, and 60 kWh battery packs. It uses a 100 kW electric motor.

The Geely EX2 comes with two motor options. These are rated at 58 kW and 85 kW. Battery options include 30 kWh and 40 kWh, depending on the variant.
The MG4 Urban offers 42.8 kWh, 53.9 kWh, and 70 kWh battery packs. The smaller two use LFP chemistry. The 70 kWh version uses semi-solid-state battery technology.
All three models are expected to offer Level 2 ADAS. Interior features will be similar across the segment. Touchscreens may range from 10.25 inches to 15.6 inches. Features such as premium seats, 360-degree cameras, four-wheel disc brakes, and advanced audio systems are likely.

Pricing is expected to be similar, placing all three models in direct competition.
In Nepal, MG is distributed by Paramount Motors. GAC Aion is represented by CG Motors. Geely vehicles are sold by LRR Motors.
If launched together, competition in the electric hatchback segment will intensify. Models like the BYD Dolphin and Nammi 01 are already present. New arrivals could further expand choices for EV buyers in Nepal.
