KATHMANDU: Toyota has more than doubled its EV sales in the US. during the first half of 2026, marking one of the strongest growth performances in the country’s EV market.

According to Cox Automotive, Toyota sold 21,855 EVs in the U.S. between January and June 2026, up 136% from 9,249 units in the same period last year.

The sharp increase comes as Toyota expands its EV portfolio beyond the bZ crossover. The company has added the C-HR compact electric SUV and the bZ Woodland, helping it significantly increase sales.

The bZ remained Toyota’s best-selling EV with 17,553 units sold during the first six months of the year. The newly launched C-HR contributed more than 3,700 units, while the bZ Woodland accounted for the remaining sales.

Toyota has also improved the bZ’s driving range and charging performance, addressing some of the criticisms of the original model.

The strong performance has helped Toyota emerge as one of the top five EV brands in the U.S., according to Cox Automotive. The automaker now outsells several established EV players, including Volkswagen, Nissan, Ford, Honda, GMC, BMW, Audi, Kia, Rivian and Cadillac in the U.S. EV market.

Toyota’s growth comes at a time when overall EV demand has moderated following the expiration of federal EV tax incentives in the U.S. Many automakers have also scaled back their electric vehicle strategies, leading to lower sales and reduced model lineups.
