KATHMANDU: Two electric scooters, which are officially being introduced during the upcoming NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo in Kathmandu, are expected to take the market by storm.
Although more than a dozen two-wheeler companies are participating, the focus will be on two electric scooters that will be unveiled during the expo.
Bajaj, a company known for selling motorcycles with internal combustion engines (ICE), is preparing or the launch its first electric scooter, the Chetak, at the Nepal Mobility Expo. Similarly, Ather, a brand that has recently gained considerable attention in Nepal, will unveil its Rizta scooter. Both electric scooters are expected to be unveiled on the first day of the expo, i.e., August 5.
Both of these scooters are manufactured in India.
Ather, which recently reduced the prices of its 2025 models, is expected to price the Ather Rizta aggressively. Vaidya Energy represents Ather in the Nepali market.
Likewise, Hansraj Hulas Chand & Company, the authorized distributor of Bajaj in Nepal, is also expected to price the electric scooter competitively. Chetak has been undergoing road testing in Nepal for a long time.
If both scooters are launched at around Rs 300,000, they could create a significant impact in Nepal’s electric two-wheeler market.
Ather has already started taking bookings for the Rizta, while Bajaj has established a dedicated showroom for the Chetak in Naxal.

Bajaj sells three variants of the Chetak: 3501, 3502 and 3503 in India. It is not clear which of these models will be launched in Nepal.
