KATHMANDU: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal, has said that the Rasuwagadhi border point, which has remained inoperable since July 8, will be reopened before the Dashain festival.

Speaking to journalists after inspecting the Galchi-Trishuli-Mailung-Syafrubesi-Rasuwagadhi road project, which is being expanded as part of a trilateral international highway, Dahal said the installation of a Bailey bridge over Lhendekhola River has already begun.

A glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) washed away the bridge over Lhendekhola, which connected Nepal with China, and also damaged several infrastructure, including roads, hydropower projects and transmission lines.

Rasuwagadhi is Nepal’s largest trading point with China.

“Authorities concerned have already been mobilized to bring the Galchhi-Rasuwagadhi road into operation and reopen the border during the upcoming festive season,” Dahal said. “An agreement has been reached to operate the Syafrubesi-Rasuwagadhi road section on the Nepali side with support from the Chinese government.”
