KATHMANDU: Xiaomi’s YU7 has posted strong sales growth in China. The electric SUV outsold Tesla’s Model Y in October, marking a major moment in the country’s competitive EV market.
Xiaomi sold 48,654 vehicles last month. Of these, 33,662 were YU7 units. Tesla delivered about 61,500 Model Ys in October, but most were shipped overseas. In China, Tesla sold around 26,100 units, placing the YU7 ahead for the month, according to media reports.
Customer deliveries of the YU7 began in July. Xiaomi is estimated to have delivered about 70,000 units so far, showing rapid demand for the new SUV.
At the Guangzhou Auto Show, Xiaomi also introduced its new Customization Service. The company showcased a YU7 Max in Crystal Purple to launch the program. The service will offer more than 100 new paint colors over the next three years.
Buyers can also choose different alloy wheels and colored Brembo brake calipers. Options like 24-karat gold badges and gold carbon fiber trims will also be available.
The YU7 comes with a single motor option producing 315 hp and a 96.3 kWh battery pack. Dual-motor versions offer 489 hp and 681 hp.
A more powerful variant is planned, though details are still limited.
