KATHMANDU: Yamaha is reportedly planning to launch the YZF-R2 in India in 2026, and the new motorcycle is expected to be sold alongside the R15.

The update follows Yamaha’s trademark filing for the YZF-R2 name in India late last year, which had sparked speculation about its arrival.

According to reports, Yamaha is targeting a festive-season launch for the R2. The motorcycle is expected to compete with models such as the KTM RC200 in the entry-level sport bike segment.

The Yamaha R2 will be designed, developed, and manufactured in India. Production is likely to take place at Yamaha’s Chennai facility, with the motorcycle intended for both domestic sales and exports.

In terms of powertrain, the R2 is expected to feature a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. The new motor is likely to offer higher performance than the R15’s 155cc engine, which produces 18 bhp and 14.2 Nm of torque.
