KATHMANDU: A total of 209 electric vehicles (EVs) have been imported into the country through the Mustang Customs Office at Nechung, Mustang, over the past week.
This is the first time that EVs have been imported via the Nepal-China border point at Korala, Mustang. With Nepal’s main trade points with China at Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani closed for the past two months, traders have begun importing EVs and other goods through the Korala border in Mustang.
Kishor Bartaula, the information officer at the Department of Customs, said the Mustang Customs Office at Nechung in Lomanthang Rural Municipality-2 started clearing goods imported from China from September 15. “The Mustang Customs Office has been equipped with the Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA) to process imported goods,” he added.
EVs from brands such as BYD, Leapmotor and Jaecoo have been imported through this customs points.
The customs office has cleared 209 EVs imported from China as of September 20. EVs from brands such as BYD, Leapmotor and Jaecoo have been imported through this customs point.
Likewise, 107 containers of goods brought from China have also been cleared. These containers are carrying clothing, cosmetics, electronics and other items.
Revenue collection from EVs and other imports through Korala amounted to Rs 344.7 million as of September 20, Bartaula added.
“To facilitate smoother clearance of Chinese imports via Korala border, provisions for goods imported through letters of credit have already been included in the Integrated Circular,” Bartaula said. “Importers can pay revenue at the Lomanthang branch of Prabhu Bank.”
