KATHMANDU: BYD’s premium brand Yangwang has introduced the U9 Xtreme, a track-focused electric hypercar. This car has set a new world record as the fastest production car.

The speed test was conducted at Germany’s Automotive Testing Papenburg where, the car reached a top speed of 496.22 km/h, breaking the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ record.

The U9 Xtreme broke the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra’s EV record with a 6:59.157 Nurburgring lap time.
BYD confirmed that only 30 units of the car will be produced for global markets.

The hypercar is built on the existing U9 platform but comes with advanced aerodynamics, carbon fiber parts and a swan-neck rear wing. It runs on 20-inch wheels with specially developed semi-slick tyres made for speeds up to 500 km/h. Braking is supported by titanium callipers and carbon-ceramic discs.

Inside, the U9 Xtreme has a digital cockpit, Alcantara finishes, bucket seats and a multifunction steering wheel. The chassis features BYD’s DiSus-X active body control system, which improves traction during acceleration, braking and cornering. The track-grade Blade Battery, with dual-layer cooling and high power output, supplies the power.

With these upgrades, BYD aims to position the U9 Xtreme as a new benchmark in both electric performance and luxury mobility.
