KATHMANDU: Bajaj Auto’s electric scooter, the Chetak, has achieved a major milestone by surpassing 500,000 cumulative sales in India.
According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the company has sold 510,000 units since its launch in January 2020 up to August 2025.
The Chetak’s growth has been accelerating in recent years. While it took nearly four years to cross the first 100,000 units, Bajaj sold over 200,000 scooters in just the last 10 months. In FY2024, sales stood at 115,702 units, followed by a record 260,033 units in FY2025.
In the first five months of the current fiscal year alone, 88,218 units have already been sold.
In Nepal, Hansraj Hulaschand & Company, the official distributor of Bajaj, has priced the Chetak at Rs 324,900. The company recently introduced the Bajaj Chetak 3501 model, equipped with a 4.2 kW motor and a 3.5 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 153 km on a full charge.
The Bajaj Chetak EV has also set a record by becoming the first electric scooter to reach the Korala border at 4,660 meters above sea level, one of the highest motorable points in Nepal.
