KATHMANDU: Stellantis and Dongfeng Motor Corporation have announced plans to establish a joint venture in Europe to support the global expansion of Dongfeng’s premium EV brand, Voyah.

The two companies have signed a preliminary agreement to form the venture, which will be owned 51 percent by Stellantis and 49 percent by Dongfeng. The JV will handle sales, distribution, manufacturing, purchasing, and engineering activities, focusing on Dongfeng’s new energy vehicles.

As part of the plan, the partners aim to introduce Voyah-branded EVs in selected European markets. They are also exploring the possibility of local production at Stellantis’ Rennes plant in France, in line with European Union regulations.

This move follows a recent agreement between the two companies to produce Jeep and Peugeot models in China. Stellantis has also been expanding its collaboration with Chinese automakers, including shared production plans with Leapmotor in Spain and upcoming small EV manufacturing in Italy.

The strategy is part of Stellantis’ broader effort to increase production and utilize underused capacity at its European plants.

For Dongfeng, the partnership supports its global growth targets. The company aims to achieve annual sales of around 5 million vehicles by 2030, with more than 40 percent coming from international markets.

Dongfeng currently holds a stake of just over 1 percent in Stellantis, reflecting a long-standing partnership that dates back to its involvement with PSA Group prior to its merger with Fiat Chrysler in 2021.
