KATHMANDU: BMW is rapidly increasing production of its new iX3 electric SUV after customer orders climbed close to 100,000 units. The strong demand has prompted the German automaker to accelerate output at its new manufacturing facility in Debrecen, Hungary.
BMW announced that it has produced the 50,000th iX3 at the Debrecen plant. The milestone comes just nine months after series production began, making it the fastest production ramp-up ever achieved at a new BMW factory.
The company said demand has exceeded expectations. To meet the growing order book, BMW introduced a second production shift at the plant in February.
The iX3 is the first model built on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform. It introduces the brand’s next-generation design language, software architecture, battery technology and electric drivetrain.
The iX3 50 xDrive starts at $85,200 in Germany and offers a WLTP-certified range of up to 805 km. The iX3 40 starts at $73,000 and delivers a WLTP-certified range of up to 628 km.
BMW also offers the iX3 40, which starts at $ 73,000 and delivers a WLTP range of up to 628 km.
In the United States, the 2027 BMW iX3 50 xDrive starts at $61,500 and has an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 698 km.
The new iX3 supports DC fast charging of up to 400 kW, allowing it to add up to 373 km of driving range in just 10 minutes, according to BMW.
Inside, the SUV features BMW’s latest Neue Klasse cabin. It includes a 17.9-inch central touchscreen and a 43-inch Panoramic Vision display that extends across the base of the windscreen.
The iX3 has also made a strong start in the European market. After deliveries began in March, it became the best-selling electric SUV in its segment in Europe in April, outperforming rivals such as the Audi Q4 e-tron.
BMW plans to launch 40 new or updated models by the end of 2027 as it expands its next-generation vehicle lineup.
