KATHMANDU: At first glance, the Leapmotor BO3X looks like a typical micro SUV. Its design is simple, while the cabin offers plenty of space. The seats are soft and comfortable.
The SUV stance is noticeable, although the rear design can feel a little empty. At a price of around Rs 4.5 million, it may leave you wondering what Leapmotor has actually offered.
That impression changes once you get behind the wheel.
The BO3X delivers a surprisingly fun driving experience. While it may not stand out in the crowded small SUV segment by appearance, its performance makes it different.
Leapmotor has built a reputation for offering powerful electric vehicles. Its Nepal distributor Shangrila Motors has also brought models with larger motors, even when vehicle taxes were based on motor power.
The C10 and B10, for example, were introduced with 160 kW electric motors. The smaller BO3X gets a 145 kW motor.
That power is one of the biggest strengths of the B03X. It delivers strong performance and feels capable on different types of roads in Nepal.
Battery and range
The Leapmotor BO3X comes with a 53 kWh battery pack. It has a claimed WLTP range of 382 km.
In real-world conditions on Nepali roads, the SUV can deliver more than 360 km of range, depending on driving conditions.
Exterior design
The BO3X has a compact and modern design. It measures 4,270 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width and 1,635 mm in height.
It gets a 2,605 mm wheelbase and a claimed ground clearance of 190 mm.
The front follows a minimalist design approach. Slim headlights are placed above the lower bumper, which also incorporates the air vents.
The side profile clearly gives it an SUV character. The wheel arches, roofline and high ground clearance further strengthen its SUV stance.
At the rear, the design is clean and simple. The smile-shaped tail lights add some character. Overall, the B03X follows a minimalist design theme.
Interior
The dashboard has a clean layout. The screen sizes also feel appropriate for the vehicle.
The steering wheel, seats, switches and door panels feel well finished. The materials used inside the cabin are also of good quality. Soft-touch materials are used across several parts of the interior. Hard plastic is limited to a few areas.
The driver gets a high seating position. The steering wheel can be adjusted in four ways, helping to find a comfortable driving position.
Driving experience
The BO3X feels easy to drive in the city. Its compact dimensions make parking and maneuvering easier.
On the highway, the SUV feels stable. Steering response improves at higher speeds, while body roll is barely noticeable through corners. The braking performance is also reassuring. The vehicle responds well when you need to slow down or stop at a desired point.
Overall, the BO3X may not be a traditionally sporty SUV. Instead, it offers a fun and engaging driving experience.
The SUV also comes with a long list of safety features. Its ADAS package includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist and Automatic Emergency Braking, which can be useful in everyday driving.
