KATHMANDU: Maruti Suzuki has started testing the facelifted Fronx in India, with the first spy images suggesting updates to its exterior design, safety features and powertrain. The updated model is expected to arrive in 2027.

The camouflaged prototype retains the current Fronx’s overall design, including its sloping roofline and split-headlamp arrangement. However, the front grille appears to have been revised, while minor changes to the front and rear bumpers are also expected, according to Rushlane.

One of the major additions could be Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The updated Fronx may receive a radar module behind the front grille, similar to the recently updated Baleno. Potential features include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance and automatic high-beam assistance.

The prototype also appears to feature rear disc brakes. The current India-spec Fronx uses front disc brakes and rear drum brakes across its variants. If confirmed, the change would mark a hardware upgrade for the compact crossover.

Although the cabin of the test vehicle is not clearly visible, the facelift could receive features introduced in the updated Baleno. These may include ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging with cooling, revised upholstery and an upgraded audio system.

The biggest expected mechanical change is the replacement of the current 1.2-litre, four-cylinder K-Series petrol engine with Maruti Suzuki’s newer 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Z-Series engine.

The current Fronx also offers a separate 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Details about the powertrain options for the facelifted model have not been confirmed.

The facelift comes as the Fronx continues to record strong sales in India and overseas markets.
