KATHMANDU: BYD has previewed two new high-end models under its Ocean series: the Seal 08 sedan and the Sealion 08 SUV.
The company revealed the teaser on December 15 during its 2025 Ocean Day event in China. Both vehicles are set to debut in the first quarter of 2026.
The Seal 08 and Sealion 08 are positioned as flagship models. They will use BYD’s latest electric vehicle technologies. BYD has also confirmed future Seal 09 and Sealion 09 models, forming a new “5678” lineup strategy
The “5678” strategy means BYD plans to expand its Ocean lineup step by step using model numbers from 05 to 08.
Both models are based on the Ocean S concept. The concept was showcased at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show. The production versions will feature BYD’s new Ocean Aesthetic 2.0 design language.
The Seal 08 sedan measures 4,720 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.
The entry-level Seal 08 uses a 110 kW electric motor and a 46.1 kWh Blade battery. It offers a CLTC range of 470 km. The higher variant gets a 160 kW motor with a 56.6 kWh Blade battery. It’s claimed range is 545 km.
The Sealion 08 SUV will be significantly larger. Industry sources say it will be about 5,040 mm long with a wheelbase of around 2,950 mm. It is expected to feature a 2+3+2 seven-seat layout.
Launched in 2021, BYD’s Ocean series has crossed 6 million units in total sales. As with existing Ocean-series exports, BYD is expected to offer right-hand-drive (RHD) versions for overseas markets.
