KATHMANDU: BYD has confirmed that its ultra-exclusive Yangwang U9 Xtreme electric supercar was sold for more than around USD 2.76 million at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show.

This makes it the most expensive BYD production vehicle ever sold and also the highest-priced transaction recorded during the auto show. The Yangwang U9 Xtreme will be limited to only 30 units worldwide, making it one of the rarest Chinese performance cars ever produced.

According to BYD Group General Manager of Branding and Public Relations Li Yunfei, at least one unit was handed over during the event. BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu personally delivered the car to the customer.

The high price is backed by serious performance credentials. BYD says the U9 Xtreme completed the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap in 6:59.157, placing it among the fastest production EVs.

The car has also set lap records at several Chinese race circuits. The U9 Xtreme reportedly produces more than 3,000 horsepower. It uses a 1200V high-voltage electrical architecture, aimed at delivering better performance and faster power delivery.

The supercar is also equipped with BYD’s DiSus-X fully active suspension system and carbon-ceramic braking components. Alongside the U9 Xtreme, BYD also displayed the Yangwang U8L luxury SUV at the Beijing Auto Show.

The four-seat flagship SUV is expected to rival premium models such as the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600. Earlier reports suggest pricing could exceed around USD 179,400.

The U9 Xtreme shows how far BYD has moved beyond affordable EVs.
