KATHMANDU: BMW has taken full control of ALPINA from January 1, 2026, ending the five-year transition agreement signed in 2020. ALPINA will now operate as a standalone brand within the BMW Group.
ALPINA is a German manufacturer known for producing exclusive, high-performance luxury versions of BMW vehicles. Its models focus on refined comfort, strong performance, and long-distance driving, positioned differently from BMW’s M performance cars.
BMW says personalization will be a core focus for ALPINA. Buyers will be offered more bespoke materials, finishes, and design options. The brand is positioned between BMW and Rolls-Royce in terms of luxury and exclusivity.

BMW is developing a new ALPINA 7 Series under this strategy. It will be based on the facelifted BMW 7 Series scheduled to enter production in July 2026. The ALPINA version is expected to follow later in 2026.
For the first time, the ALPINA 7 Series will be fully built by BMW. The model is expected to use a separate internal code.
The B7 name is likely to return. Power is expected to come from a twin-turbo V8 with mild-hybrid technology, producing around 617 horsepower.
An electric ALPINA 7 Series is under discussion but not planned as a B7. Any electric version would likely be based on the BMW i7.
ALPINA will mainly focus on flagship luxury models such as the 7 Series, 8 Series, and X7.
