Four best EVs under Rs 3 million in Nepal

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s car market is not particularly known for budget-friendly models. Most buyers here prefer vehicles that look and feel like SUVs. This is partly due to the global SUV craze and also because of Nepal’s rough and uneven roads.

However, brands like Kaiyi, MG, Tata, Leapmotor, and BYD are now offering affordable electric cars packed with impressive features. Among them, a few compact hatchback EVs stand out as practical family cars within a reasonable budget.

Here’s a look at four compact electric hatchbacks available in Nepal under Rs 3 million. These models show that Nepali buyers can now choose affordable, well-equipped, and efficient EVs that deliver great value and practicality for everyday city use.

Kaiyi e-Qute 04

The Kaiyi e-Qute 04 is priced at Rs 2.596 million. Designed with stylish looks, the model is also being introduced under the Chery brand, which has an investment stake in Kaiyi.

It comes with a 28.08 kWh LFP battery, supports fast charging, and offers a range of around 250 km on a single charge. The car is powered by a 40 kW electric motor.

Tata Tiago EV

The Tata Tiago EV is Nepal’s best-selling electric hatchback. It combines compact dimensions, an attractive design, and a strong feature list. The EV is priced at Rs 2.749 million, while the top variant costs Rs 2.999 million.

Distributed by Sipradi Trading, more than 2,000 units have already been sold in Nepal. It comes with a 24 kWh battery and a 48 kW motor, delivering an estimated range of up to 200 km per charge.

BYD Atto 1

The newly launched BYD Atto 1 has quickly caught the attention of Nepali buyers. The entry variant is priced at Rs 2.895 million.

It is equipped with a 30 kWh battery offering a WLTP range of 230 km and supports DC fast charging. The car runs on a 45 kW motor.

Leapmotor T03

Introduced by Shangrila Motors, the Leapmotor T03 is the brand’s second product in Nepal. It is known for its smart design, practical features, and efficient battery performance. The T03 is priced at Rs 2,799 million.

The hatchback comes with a 37.3 kWh battery that delivers an excellent WLTP range of up to 265 km on a single charge, according to test reports.
