KATHMANDU: Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is working on a new 100cc motorcycle. The company aims to compete directly with the Hero Splendor, which currently leads the 100-110cc commuter segment.
Hero MotoCorp holds a massive 78% share in this category in India. In comparison, Honda’s share is just 6%. While Honda had launched the Shine 100 as its entry-level model, it has not been able to match Splendor’s popularity.
According to Autocar India, the upcoming 100cc bike will sit above the Shine 100 in Honda’s line-up. It is expected to offer more features and appeal to buyers looking for something more premium in the budget commuter space.
Despite rising interest in bigger bikes, the 100-110cc segment remains important. It made up over 46% of total motorcycle sales in India during FY2025.
Honda already performs well in the 125cc motorcycle and scooter segments. But the company is now focusing on strengthening its presence in the entry-level motorcycle market.
