KATHMANDU : Honda could significantly reduce the price of the Rebel 500 in India by manufacturing the middleweight cruiser locally. The India-made model is expected to be launched at an ex-showroom price of around 380,000 Indian rupees to 390,000 Indian rupees, making it nearly 25% cheaper than the earlier imported version.
Honda first introduced the Rebel 500 in India in 2025 as a completely built-up (CBU) model at 512,000 Indian rupees (ex-showroom).
The lower pricing is likely to be achieved through local production and increased localization. Reports suggest the India-made Rebel 500 will use around 50% locally sourced components, while the 471cc parallel-twin engine will continue to be imported.
The cruiser is powered by a 471cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin petrol engine that produces 45.5 bhp and 43.3 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and has a claimed top speed of 153 km/h.
One of the Rebel 500’s key highlights is its 690 mm seat height, making it more accessible for shorter riders. The motorcycle also features a relaxed cruiser riding position for comfortable daily use.
Honda is also expected to offer the Rebel 500 E-Clutch in India. The system allows riders to operate the clutch manually or let the electronic clutch system manage starts and gear changes automatically, reducing rider fatigue in heavy traffic.
The earlier Rebel 500 featured a simple LCD instrument cluster. However, the India-made version could receive the circular TFT display showcased on the Rebel 300.
Once launched, the Honda Rebel 500 will compete with motorcycles such as the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 and the Kawasaki Eliminator in the mid-size cruiser segment.
