KATHMANDU: Hyundai Motor Company has announced its bold 2030 vision at the CEO Investor Day held in New York, the first of its kind outside Korea.
The company shared its long-term strategy focusing on electrification, manufacturing expansion and advanced technologies.
Hyundai has set a target to sell 5.55 million vehicles globally by 2030. Out of this, 3.3 million units will be electrified models. The company plans to launch more than 18 hybrid vehicles along with a full range of electric cars.
New regional EVs will include the IONIQ 3 for Europe, India’s first locally designed EV and two China-made models — the Elexio and a new electric sedan.
From 2027, Hyundai will introduce its first Extended Range EV (EREV) models. These vehicles will offer over 600 miles of driving range and serve as a bridge toward full electrification.
The company also announced expansion of its global manufacturing. Phase 2 of Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) will add production capacity of 200,000 units by 2028.

This $2.7 billion investment is expected to create 3,000 new jobs. Worldwide, Hyundai aims to add 1.2 million more units through facilities powered by Software-Defined Factory technology.
Hyundai is also working on next-generation batteries to improve cost and performance. A cloud-based battery management system will be introduced from 2026.
On the software side, Hyundai’s Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) platform will bring personalized features, AI-driven mobility services and continuous updates for customers.
Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury brand, will also go electric. It plans to offer EREV, hybrid and battery-powered vehicles across its full lineup, including its flagship SUV. By 2030, Genesis is targeting annual sales of 350,000 units.
CEO Jose Munoz said Hyundai is transforming into a global mobility leader. He emphasized the company’s focus on product expansion, electrification and software innovation to redefine the future driving experience.
