KATHMANDU : The next-generation Hyundai Kona has leaked online ahead of its official debut, revealing a more rugged SUV-inspired design and a completely new interior.

Instead of giving the current model a mid-cycle facelift, Hyundai is expected to introduce an all-new third-generation Kona. The new model appears taller and more upright than the current version, giving it a stronger SUV character.

The leaked image shows styling inspired by Hyundai’s Crater Concept and IONIQ 5. It features pixel-style lighting, a clamshell hood, and a more angular body shape.

Inside, the new Kona is expected to debut Hyundai’s latest Pleos infotainment system, which was first introduced in the IONIQ 3. The system is based on Android Automotive OS and offers a smartphone-like user experience with downloadable apps and customizable screens.

Depending on the variant, the SUV is expected to get either a 12.9-inch or 14.6-inch central touchscreen, along with an optional digital driver display.

Hyundai has not yet revealed the powertrain details. However, the new Kona is expected to continue with electric, hybrid, and petrol variants. The hybrid model is likely to use the same 1.6-liter hybrid engine found in the latest Hyundai Seltos.

The third-generation Kona is expected to arrive globally in 2027 or 2028, with the electric version likely to return alongside the new model.
