KATHMANDU: Tata Motors is set to roll out the first Range Rover Evoque, a compact luxury SUV from the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) portfolio, from its new Greenfield plant in Tamil Nadu, India in the first half of February, according to Deccan Herald.
The vehicle is priced at around 6.5 million Indian rupees (ex-showroom) in India. The rollout is expected on February 9, less than 16 months after the foundation stone was laid.
Spread over 470 acres at Panapakkam in Ranipet, the plant will manufacture vehicles from both Tata Motors and JLR brands. Initial operations will begin with completely knocked down (CKD) assembly, with more models to be introduced in phases.
Tata Motors is investing around 90,000 million Indian rupees in the plant, which is planned to have an annual production capacity of over 250,000 vehicles in the next five to seven years. The facility will produce both internal combustion engine and electric vehicles for domestic and export markets.
This is Tata Motors’ second manufacturing facility in South India, after the Dharwad plant in Karnataka. The new unit is expected to support the company’s localization strategy. JLR vehicles are currently assembled at Tata Motors’ Pune facility.
The commissioning of the plant further strengthens Tamil Nadu’s position as a key automotive manufacturing hub in India.
