KATHMANDU: People usually spend money after earning it and that spending supports the economy. But in Nepal, a growing belief that wealth is suspicious has discouraged even capable buyers from purchasing high-end cars.

When wealthy individuals buy premium vehicles, it not only boosts government revenue through taxes but also supports jobs in sales, maintenance, and related services.

In Nepal, the choice for luxury vehicles is very limited. Japanese brands like Toyota, Mazda, and Nissan have been present for decades, but they are not considered premium.

European brands such as BMW, Land Rover, Audi, Volkswagen, and Porsche are available, though most operate only through order-based imports.

Among them, only BMW has a consistent official presence.

Here are four premium and expensive cars currently available in the Nepali market:

BMW X7

The BMW X7 is one of the most expensive vehicles on sale in Nepal. Laxmi Premium Motors, the official dealer of BMW, offers it as the brand’s flagship SUV.

Its price ranges between Rs 75 million and Rs 80 million, depending on customization options. The X7 is over five meters long and is powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder petrol engine. It can reach a top speed of 250 km/h.

Range Rover Autobiography

The Range Rover Autobiography, built by British brand Land Rover, is a favorite among global celebrities and leaders. Arete International is the official distributor in Nepal.

This luxury SUV costs above Rs 70 million and comes with a twin-turbo V8 petrol engine paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Its top speed is also 250 km/h.

Toyota Land Cruiser 300 (LC300)

Toyota’s Land Cruiser 300 remains one of the most popular luxury SUVs in Nepal. United Traders Syndicate has been selling Toyota vehicles in the country for over 50 years.

The LC300 is priced at Rs 53.9 million and currently meets Euro 4 emission standards. The upcoming Euro 6-compliant version is expected to cost over Rs 60 million. It features a 3.3-liter twin-turbo diesel engine.

Porsche Macan

The Porsche Macan is among the most premium electric SUVs available in Nepal. Distributed by Kaeros International, the Macan is priced at around Rs 37.5 million.

It comes with a 95-kWh NCM battery and a 300-kW motor, offering a range of up to 365 km on a single charge.

Luxury cars may be few in number, but these four models represent the top options for buyers seeking performance, comfort, and exclusivity in Nepal.
