KATHMANDU: Maruti Suzuki has reached another major milestone in the Indian automobile industry, achieving 30 million cumulative sales in the domestic market.
The company accomplished this feat within 42 years since delivering its first car the Maruti 800 on December 14, 1983.
It took Maruti Suzuki 28 years and 2 months to sell its first 10 million units. The next 10 million were achieved much faster, in just 7 years and 5 months, while the latest 10 million sales were completed in a record 6 years and 4 months.
Among the 30 million units sold, the Alto remains the brand’s top-selling model with over 4.7 million units sold. The WagonR follows with more than 3.4 million units, and the Swift comes next with over 3.2 million units. Other popular models like the Brezza and Fronx have also made it to the brand’s top 10 list.
Commenting on the achievement, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “When I think about 30 million customers across India who have placed their trust in Maruti Suzuki to fulfill their dream of mobility, it fills me with humility and gratitude.
However, with car penetration at around 33 vehicles per 1,000 people, our journey is still far from over. We will continue striving to make mobility accessible to more people while contributing positively to both the economy and the environment.”
As per recent reports, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.’s market capitalization now stands at approximately US $57.6 billion, placing the company 8th globally among carmakers.
This milestone further cements Maruti Suzuki’s position as the most trusted and dominant carmaker in India’s passenger vehicle market.
