Nearly 60,000 ICE vehicles imported through Birgunj customs in 11 months

BIRGUNJ: Internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles worth Rs 15.92 billion were imported into the country via Birgunj customs point over the first 11 months of the current fiscal year.

According to Deepak Lamichhane, Chief Customs Officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, 59,474 fuel-powered vehicles, ranging from unassembled motorcycles to heavy equipment, were imported during this period. The office mobilized a total revenue of Rs 15.38 billion from these imports.

Of this, 44,440 units are unassembled motorcycles worth Rs 5.78 billion. The office collected Rs 5.51 billion from these imports.

Likewise, 1,307 bus and truck chassis worth Rs 2.63 billion and 838 units of cars, jeeps and vans worth Rs 1.8 billion were also imported through the customs point during the review period.

The government mobilized Rs 17.70 billion from motor vehicle imports through the customs point in 11 months.

According to the office, 5,220 tractors and trailers worth Rs 1.16 billion, 374 buses worth Rs 1.02 billion and 131 concrete mixer lorries worth Rs 670 million were also brought in during the review period. Likewise, 276 trucks and mini-trucks worth Rs 660 million were also imported into the country through the customs point during the 11 months.

In addition, 4,160 ready-to-use motorcycles worth Rs 390 million were imported, while 2,385 electric vehicles, both small and large, worth Rs 1.84 billion were also brought in through the customs points. The government collected Rs 1.84 billion in revenue from these electric vehicles.
