KATHMANDU: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kulman Ghising has announced new measures to manage transport and road safety during the upcoming Dashain festival.

In a meeting with stakeholders on Saturday, the minister instructed concerned authorities to provide passengers with round-the-clock updates on road conditions, address complaints promptly and ensure the quick clearance of roads blocked by floods and landslides.

As part of the festival plan, public passenger vehicles will be allowed to exit Kathmandu Valley through the Nagdhunga–Sisneri tunnel. Entry through the tunnel will be opened for such vehicles only after Dashain, according to the minister’s secretariat.

The meeting also decided to request the Ministry of Home Affairs to mobilize Nepal Police for increased patrols and tighter security at the New Bus Park in Kathmandu and on major highways across the country.

To prioritize passenger movement, heavy-duty trucks with 12 wheels or more will be restricted from operating along the Daunne section of the Butwal–Narayanghat road during the Dashain period.

However, vehicles carrying essential goods, including food supplies, will be allowed to move without interruption.

Additionally, the Department of Roads has been directed to appoint focal persons to monitor the condition of roads and ensure safety management on a 24-hour basis across the country.
