Supreme Court selects KMC Automobiles to supply 61 SUVs

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has selected KMC Automobiles to supply 61 compact SUVs for judges.

The Supreme Court had invited bids from interested companies to supply 61 compact SUVs on February 28. Responding to the notice, KMC Automobiles and Laxmi Intercontinental had submitted their bids. The apex court has selected KMC Automobiles’ bid based on its technical proposal.

KMC Automobiles, a Chaudhary Group enterprise, represents Suzuki in Nepal, while Laxmi Intercontinental is the authorized distributor for Hyundai in Nepal.

The Supreme Court will now open the financial proposal, which will reveal the per-unit price of the compact SUV, at 1 pm on April 30.

As per the bid notice, the selected supplier must deliver the vehicles within 30 days of the opening of the financial proposal.

The vehicles must meet the Supreme Court’s specifications – a minimum 1150 cc engine, 80 PS power, 110 Nm torque, 185 mm ground clearance, 2480 mm wheelbase, two-wheel or four-wheel drive option, at least five doors, ABS braking system, rear parking sensors and a fuel efficiency of 17 km per liter of petrol.

Sources say that KMC Automobiles will supply the Suzuki Fronx to the Supreme Court.

Suzuki Fronx features a 1.2-liter Dualjet four-cylinder engine that delivers 89 PS power and 113 Nm torque. The car is priced between Rs 4.149 million and Rs 4.949 million in the Nepali market, depending on features.
