KATHMANDU: Tata Motors has launched the 2025 Sierra SUV in India at an introductory price of Rs 1.149 million Indian rupees (ex-showroom).
The new model enters the midsize SUV segment, where it will compete with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Grand Vitara.
Tata is counting on the Sierra to strengthen its position in a fast-growing market. The company launched the model by reviving the old Sierra nameplate, which had a strong fan following in its time. The new SUV will go head-to-head with Hyundai’s Creta and Suzuki’s Vitara.
Tata has made a strong comeback in recent years with new models that focus on safety and design. Its growing EV lineup has also helped the brand.
Tata now holds more than 13 percent market share, up from just 5 percent in 2019, and it remains India’s largest EV maker.

Rivalry in the SUV market, however, is getting tougher. Mahindra is introducing new SUVs and EVs that have earned strong reviews. Hyundai continues to lead several segments with its value-focused models.
EVs from JSW-MG Motor, backed by China’s SAIC, are also increasing competition in the electric space.
Tata and Mahindra are both working to challenge Hyundai for the second spot in India’s passenger vehicle market. The segment is still led by Maruti Suzuki.
The new Sierra is built on Tata’s latest vehicle platform and uses a new gasoline engine. Tata expects the SUV to drive higher sales. An electric version of the Sierra is also planned, with a launch expected in the fiscal year starting April 2026.
