KATHMANDU: Toyota has been spotted testing a new compact pickup based on the Corolla Cross in Brazil. The model is expected to debut in early 2027.
The camouflaged dual-cab prototype shows a front design similar to the Corolla Cross, combined with a stretched body and rear cargo bed, confirming a unibody pickup layout. The images were shared by BlogAuto.
The model is likely to be built on Toyota’s TNGA platform, with structural reinforcements for load-carrying use. It will compete with models like Fiat Toro, Ram Rampage, and Chevrolet Montana in the South American market.

In terms of design, the pickup gets boxy wheel arches, a rising beltline, and roof rails. At the rear, it features a large tailgate with an integrated step and a full-width light bar.
Toyota is expected to offer multiple powertrain options. These include a 2.0-liter petrol engine and a 1.8-liter hybrid system. Reports also suggest a flex-fuel plug-in hybrid variant with all-wheel drive.
Production is likely to take place at Toyota’s Sorocaba plant in Brazil. The project is part of the company’s $2.2 billion investment plan in the region through 2030.
For the US market, Toyota is considering a separate compact pickup based on the larger RAV4 platform. However, this project is still under evaluation.
