KATHMANDU: BYD’s upcoming Tang 9 flagship SUV has been spotted testing in China shortly after its first teaser. The camouflaged model previews BYD’s next-generation D-segment SUV.

The Tang 9 is the production version of the Dynasty-D full-size concept. It is expected to measure over 5 meters in length and nearly 2 meters in width. BYD will position it as the brand’s flagship SUV.

The official unveil is scheduled for the first half of 2026. Once launched, the Tang 9 will be offered in both BEV and PHEV versions. It will compete with models such as the Aito M9 and Zeekr 9X.

BYD is also preparing the Han 9 executive sedan. Both vehicles target the USD 28,700 to USD 43,000 price range. The company aims to enter the entry-level luxury vehicle segment.

Despite heavy camouflage, several design elements are visible. The front features a trapezoidal lower grille with chrome accents. A roof-mounted LiDAR sensor suggests advanced driver assistance systems.

At the rear, a high-mounted brake light can be seen. The side profile shows flush door handles, multi-spoke alloy wheels, and chrome window trim.

The interior is expected to use a 2+2+2 six-seat layout. The second row will feature individual captain seats.

Public voting is underway to finalize the official name. Options include “Tang 9” and “Great Tang.”

In 2025, BYD’s Dynasty series sold 1.885 million vehicles. The Tang lineup accounted for 154,900 units.
