KATHMANDU: BYD’s smallest electric hatchback, the Atto 1, is arriving in Nepal at a steady pace, with imports averaging more than six units per day. The company started accepting bookings during the NAIMA Mobility Expo in Kathmandu, and deliveries started from September.
As of January 15, a total of 840 units have been imported into Nepal. Monthly import figures show consistent demand. Imports stood at 316 units in September, 115 units in October, 94 units in November, and rose sharply to 300 units in December. January has recorded 15 units so far. Over 135 days, the average arrival rate stands at 6.22 units per day.
The BYD Atto 1 has also gained popularity in Europe and China. In Nepal, its competitive pricing, modern features, and strong brand value have helped it stand out in the entry-level EV segment, despite growing competition.
BYD is offering the Atto 1 Dynamic at Rs 2.895 million. With bank financing at around 6 percent interest, buyers can finance up to 60 percent of the price. This results in a monthly EMI of about Rs 25,400 over seven years. The Atto 1 Premium variant is priced at Rs 3.299 million, making the price difference between the two variants Rs 404,000.
The main differences between the two variants are the battery capacity and safety features. The Dynamic variant gets a 30.08 kWh battery and four airbags, while the Premium variant offers a larger 38.88 kWh battery and six airbags. Both versions use the same 45 kW electric motor.
With steady imports and accessible financing options, the BYD Atto 1 is emerging as a volume model in Nepal’s entry-level electric vehicle market.
