KATHMANDU: Candidates contesting in the House of Representatives elections will not be allowed to use rooftop vehicles (vehicles driven with open roofs for public interaction) during campaign programs.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Central Security Committee held on Thursday. Authorities stated that the restriction has been imposed considering the security risks associated with candidates standing through open-roof vehicles while campaigning.

In recent days, many candidates have been using rooftop vehicles for election rallies and door-to-door campaigns to address voters. However, security officials concluded that such practices could expose candidates to potential threats and increase vulnerability during public events. Following this assessment, the use of rooftop vehicles for campaign purposes has been prohibited.

The meeting was chaired by Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal and attended by Home Secretary Raj Kumar Shrestha, Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki, Armed Police Force IGP Raju Aryal, the Chief of the National Investigation Department, representatives from the Nepal Army, and Joint Secretary Anand Kafle.

Authorities said the decision is part of broader security measures being implemented to ensure safe and orderly elections.
