KATHMANDU: The list of electric vehicle (EV) brands slowing down in Nepal despite being officially available for sale continues to grow.
While several brands entered the market with strong expectations over the past two years, many have struggled to sustain consistent sales and imports.
Seres is among the brands witnessing a sharp slowdown. After recording encouraging sales in 2024, imports have nearly halted as demand gradually declined.
The brand introduced the Seres 3 SUV and a compact mini EV in Nepal, with the Seres 3 still available for purchase. However, distributor MAW Vriddhi has not imported any new Seres EVs for nearly 10 months.
Despite global popularity, Zeekr has failed to gain similar traction in Nepal. Pioneer MotoCorp introduced the high-performance crossover Zeekr X, but sales remained limited. Since its launch in 2024, only 72 units have been imported, with no new shipments recorded after May 2024.

Chinese brand Skywell, brought by G Motors, also struggled due to premium pricing. The flagship Skywell ET5 saw imports of just 32 units. The company later introduced the relatively affordable Skywell BE11, which reached 89 imported units, yet no Skywell SUVs have entered Nepal in the past 10 months.

Startup EV maker XPeng entered Nepal in 2024 through CG Motors with the premium crossover XPeng G6. A total of 139 units have been imported so far, 53 units in 2024, 85 units in 2025, and only one unit by mid-February 2026. While imports continue, volumes remain modest for the premium segment.

Another premium entrant, Avatr, jointly introduced by MAW Group and CG Motors, has also seen limited activity. The Avatr 11 crossover SUV recorded a single batch import of 44 units in 2024, with no additional shipments or new models since then.

Meanwhile, Kia’s EV lineup has also slowed down significantly despite the brand’s strong performance in petrol and diesel segments.

Models such as the Kia Soul EV, Kia Niro EV, Kia EV6, Kia EV5, and Kia EV9 are available in Nepal, but imports remain minimal. Distributor Continental Trading imported only 12 Kia EV units over the past year, reflecting weak market momentum.
