KATHMANDU: American ride-hailing company Uber has unofficially started its service in Nepal. The company has begun trial ride operations in Kathmandu Valley and is preparing for a formal launch soon.

Users can now request rides through the Uber app. The platform currently supports booking for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers.

Uber’s fare rates also appear lower than other ride-sharing platforms operating in Nepal. On Thursday evening at around 5:45 PM, the Uber app showed a fare of Rs 67 for a motorcycle ride from Naxal to New Road Gate.

At the same time, inDrive showed Rs 91 for the same route, while Pathao displayed Rs 109. Uber informed users about its arrival in Kathmandu through an official email sent on Tuesday.

According to sources, Uber has partnered with Taximandu for service expansion in Nepal. However, an official announcement is yet to be made.

The company is expected to begin operations in Kathmandu Valley first and gradually expand to other urban areas.

Uber currently operates in more than 70 countries. Nepal’s ride-sharing market already includes companies like Pathao, inDrive, and Yango. Uber’s entry is expected to increase competition and provide more options for passengers.
