KATHMANDU : Nepal’s electric vehicle market is entering an interesting phase, with several models competing in the Rs 3 million to Rs 4 million price range.

The segment now includes everything from premium hatchbacks to compact SUVs. Buyers have several options with different designs, features and performance.

Price is no longer the only factor. Battery capacity, driving range, motor power, ground clearance, cabin space, features and after-sales service are also becoming important when choosing an EV.

The recent price cut on the Dongfeng Nammi Vigo has added further pressure to the segment. The Vigo is currently listed at around Rs 4.1 million, while models such as the Chery Q, Tata Punch EV, Tata Tiago EV, Arcfox T1 and BYD Atto 1 are also competing for buyers in and around this price range.

This has made the Rs 3 million to Rs 4 million segment one of the most competitive areas of Nepal’s EV market.

Discount war or a new price level?

The NADA Auto Show 2026 is set to take place at Bhrikutimandap from August 25 to 30. Several brands are expected to use the six-day event to attract customers with cash discounts, exchange bonuses, free accessories and financing offers.

However, the recent price adjustments have raised a bigger question. Will these remain limited-time auto show offers, or will they lead to a permanent change in EV prices?

If more brands reduce prices to stay competitive, the Rs 3 million to Rs 4 million segment could become even more aggressive.

That would give customers more choices and stronger value for money.

The real competition begins after bookings

The number of bookings received at the auto show will certainly attract attention. But bookings alone will not determine which model succeeds.

Customers will also look at how quickly they can get their vehicles after booking.

As demand for new EV models grows, timely delivery could become a major challenge for distributors. Spare parts availability, service center coverage, trained technicians and resale value will also play an important role.

In the end, the winner of this price segment may not simply be the brand offering the biggest discount.

It could be the one that offers the right combination of price, features, performance and after-sales support.
