KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) President, Chandra Prasad Dhakal, has urged the government to allow the import of vehicles below the Euro-6 emission standard for one time only if they have already been ordered.

Speaking at the inauguration of the NADA Auto Show 2025 in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Dhakal said that while the enforcement of the Euro-6 standard is a positive step, its immediate implementation could cause practical difficulties for automobile entrepreneurs. He requested the government to consider a one-time exemption.

Responding to Dhakal, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said the suggestion was reasonable and assured that the government would consider the proposal.

During the event, Dhakal also praised the NADA Auto Show for its contribution to the national economy. He added that the rising import of electric vehicles shows strong potential for vehicle assembly industries, data centers and environmentally friendly manufacturing in the country.

Dhakl said the recent amendment to more than 30 laws related to industry, investment and business has helped foster a more positive perception of the private sector. “Despite economic challenges in recent years, we are seeing signs of recovery in the market. Vehicle sales have increased by around 40% compared to two years ago. Likewise, credit flow has increased by 8.7%, and banks’ profits have risen. These are all positive indicators,” he said.
