KATHMANDU: BYD has unveiled the 2027 version of its popular electric crossover, the Yuan Up, sold internationally as the Atto 2, with added features and a longer driving range in China.
The updated Atto 2 comes with more equipment and extended range options. In the Chinese market, the company has priced the new model starting at $11,150.
The new Atto 2 is being offered in five variants, all powered by a 70 kW electric motor. Previously, the China-spec Atto 2 was available with either a 70 kW or a 130 kW motor. The version sold in the Nepali market, however, comes with a 100 kW motor.
The new Atto 2 uses lithium iron phosphate Blade Battery packs supplied by FinDreams Battery. It is offered with three battery options: 51.13 kWh, 45.12 kWh and 32 kWh, which the company claims deliver CLTC ranges of 501 km, 401 km and 301 km respectively. With fast charging, these batteries can be charged from 30 percent to 80 percent in just 30 minutes.
There are no changes to the exterior design of the new Atto 2. Its dimensions remain the same as before, at 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width and 1,675 mm in height, with a 2,620 mm wheelbase.
The company has added two new color options: Energetic Yellow and Oxygen Blue, while the higher-end variants now get new 17-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels.
The cabin, however, has seen some changes. The new Atto 2 gets a column-mounted gear shifter behind the steering wheel, freeing up extra space on the center console. Other features include a 12.8-inch rotatable main touchscreen, an 8.8-inch driver display, ventilated and heated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
The new Atto 2 also gets a new two-spoke leather steering wheel. The front seats now come with both ventilation and seat heating.
Some variants are equipped with automated valet parking technology and a smart system that assists with highway driving. The company has also stated that it will bear the cost of any damage caused to the vehicle during automated parking.
Additionally, the car now supports a digital key via NFC technology, allowing owners to unlock the vehicle using their smartphone, along with a separate AC vent added for rear passengers.
