KATHMANDU: Transport management offices will now be required to approve driving license applications submitted by applicants within 48 hours.
The Department of Transport Management has introduced this provision through the newly issued “Directive on Electronic Delivery of Driving License Services, 2083.”
According to the directive, applications submitted online for new licenses, category additions, duplicate copies and renewals must generally be approved by the concerned office within 48 hours.
If an application is to be rejected, the office must inform the applicant of the reason for rejection.
The directive also states that offices must make the probable dates, venues and capacity for written and practical license examinations available on the system at least 15 days in advance.
Examination results must be entered into the system within 48 hours. If an office is unable to do so within that time, it must inform the provincial ministry along with the on-site records and the office’s decision on the matter.
Printed license cards must be distributed as per the rules, and where an applicant requests delivery to a specified address, the office must arrange to send it to that address upon collection of the required fee.
The department said the new directive has been issued to make driving license-related services simpler, faster, more transparent, secure and service-friendly by operating them through an electronic system.
In situations where examinations cannot be conducted due to disasters, unexpected technical issues or other special circumstances, the concerned offices will be required to reschedule the examination.
