KATHMANDU: Vehicles using the Nagdhunga-Sisnekhola Tunnel Road will have to pay toll charges starting today, November 1, 2026.
The Nagdhunga Tunnel Construction Project has begun collecting toll fees at the departure points based on vehicle categories. The tunnel, which officially came into operation on July 27, 2026, had been providing free access to vehicles until now.
The toll rates vary depending on vehicle type and direction of travel. Cars and vans travelling towards Kathmandu will be charged Rs 65, while those exiting Kathmandu will pay Rs 60.
Similarly, minibuses and mini trucks will be charged Rs 115 for entry into Kathmandu and Rs 80 for exit. Buses and trucks will have to pay Rs 260 and Rs 200, respectively. Heavy vehicles will be charged Rs 600 when entering Kathmandu and Rs 250 when exiting.
The toll collection system will primarily use digital payments through Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. According to the Road Board Nepal, vehicles must use an N-Tag sticker attached to the windshield for automatic toll deduction.
Motorists can obtain N-Tag cards from Global IME Bank, Kumari Bank, Nabil Bank, Nepal Investment Mega Bank and Sanima Bank. The cards are currently available with balances of Rs 1,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 5,000.
Once attached to the vehicle’s windshield, the sticker is automatically detected by the system, allowing the toll amount to be deducted electronically. QR code payments and cash payments will also be available during the initial phase.
The toll revenue collected from the tunnel will be deposited daily into the Road Board Nepal’s account.
