KATHMANDU: AirCharge, a charging solutions provider, has installed a 400 kW DC fast-charging station capable of serving up to 15 electric vehicles simultaneously.

According to the company, it has already established DC fast chargers at 12 different locations across the country. Each station has CCS2 and GBT charging guns to ensure compatibility with different electric vehicle models.

“Charging anxiety is more prevalent than range anxiety in Nepal,” Bidhan Sharma, Managing Director of AirCharge, told MeroAuto. “We aim to address this by building reliable and accessible charging infrastructure. With support from donor agencies, we are also adding user-friendly facilities to enhance the overall experience.”

AirCharge has already built charging stations at three locations in Kathmandu Valley-Samakhushi of Kathmandu, Satdobato of Lalitpur and Sallaghari of Bhaktapur. Each site features 10 DC fast chargers (up to 400 kW capacity) and 5 AC fast chargers rated at 22 kW.

While private charging providers often set higher charging rates, AirCharge Nepal has opted to match the tariffs set by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

The company aims to install 500 charging guns by the end of the next fiscal year. Of these, 200 will be deployed by the end of the current fiscal year.

The company has built a mobile app, named EI, that allows users to book chargers, check wait times and plan charging sessions in advance. “The app has features like charger booking and real-time information on how many vehicles are in the queue,” said Sharma. “We aim to make it easier for drivers to know exactly when their turn will come.”.

Beyond vehicle charging, AirCharge stations offer added amenities such as rest areas, cafes, canteens, car wash services and vehicle accessories, aiming to create a more comfortable and functional space for drivers during their wait.

The company aims to install 500 charging guns by the end of the next fiscal year. Of these, 200 will be deployed by the end of the current fiscal year, with another 300 set to be added over the following 12 months.

Along with three locations in Kathmandu Valley, AirCharge has already installed charging stations at BP Highway in Sindhuli, Kurintar, Chitwan, Bardibas, Itahari, Damak, Nuwakot and Attariya. Charging facilities in Kawasoti and Surkhet are expected to come online soon, according to Sharma.
