KATHMANDU: Domestic airfares in Nepal have become cheaper after the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) reduced the price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) by Rs 40 per liter for domestic flights.
Following the fuel price revision, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) lowered the fuel surcharge on domestic air tickets. The revised surcharge came into effect from Wednesday, making air travel cheaper on several routes. While the total airfare also includes taxes and other charges, the reduction in fuel surcharge has lowered the overall ticket price.
The biggest reduction has been recorded on the Biratnagar-Dhangadhi route. The airfare has fallen by Rs 2,580, with the revised fare fixed at Rs 14,745, down from the previous Rs 17,325.
The Nepalgunj-Bhadrapur route has also seen a significant cut. The airfare has been reduced by Rs 2,335, bringing the revised fare down to Rs 13,390 from Rs 15,725.
Several other routes have also become cheaper. The fare on the Biratnagar-Nepalgunj route has been reduced by Rs 2,150, while the Janakpur-Dhangadhi route is cheaper by Rs 2,200. Airfares on the Simara-Dhangadhi, Janakpur-Nepalgunj, and Bhairahawa-Bhadrapur routes have been reduced by Rs 2,030, Rs 1,770, and Rs 1,760, respectively.
Similarly, passengers traveling on the Kathmandu-Dhangadhi route will pay Rs 1,765 less, while fares on the Pokhara-Biratnagar and Kathmandu-Surkhet routes have been reduced by Rs 1,425 and Rs 1,380, respectively.
The fuel surcharge on Kathmandu-Mountain flights has also been revised. It has been reduced from Rs 9,235 to Rs 7,860, making mountain flights slightly more affordable as well.
